A screw spike, also known as a rail screw or lag bolt, is a substantial metal fastener (~6 in or 152 mm in length, just under 1 in or 25 mm in diameter) utilized to secure a tie plate or fasten rail. These screw spikes are meticulously inserted into pre-bored holes in the sleeper for optimal stability.
A tie plate, also referred to as a baseplate or sole plate, is a critical steel component used on rail tracks, strategically positioned between the flanged T rail and the crossties. This plate serves to increase the bearing area and maintain the rail's correct gauge, secured onto wooden ties through strategically placed spikes or bolts.
A Rail Pad is an essential resilient insulating material, strategically placed between the rail foot and either the sleeper or the baseplate surface, to enhance durability and performance.
