The screw spike, also known as a rail screw or lag bolt, is an approximately 6 inches (152 mm) long metal screw, slightly under 1 inch (25 mm) in diameter, utilized to securely fix a tie plate or fasten rail. Precisely bored into the sleeper, these screws ensure steadfast rail attachment.
A tie plate, also referred to as a baseplate or sole plate, is a meticulously crafted steel plate used on rail tracks. Positioned between the flanged T rail and the crossties, it enhances bearing area and maintains correct gauge alignment, secured to wooden ties via spikes or bolts through precision-engineered plate holes.
