The screw spike, commonly referred to as a rail screw, represents a specialized type of rail spike, meticulously engineered as a robust metal screw designed for securing rail fasteners. Crafted from premium NO.3 steel, the screw spike's threaded rod surface is what gives it its unique characteristics, and provides an impressive pull-out resistance that is 0.5 to 1.0 times greater than standard rail spikes. However, the thrust resistance is about 50% lower. Due to the challenges associated with disassembly and reassembly, and its impact on rail gauge adjustments, it finds its ideal application in the railway turnout.
