It offers a remarkable pull-out resistance, up to 1.0 times higher than that of the common rail spike, though its thrust resistance is reduced by 50%. Despite its complex disassembly and assembly process, which makes rail gauge adjustments challenging, it finds its primary application in critical locations like the railway turnout.

Regarding cost considerations, the screw spike demands a higher investment compared to the dog spike, yet it boasts superior fixing strength-approximately double that of a rail spike. It can be efficiently paired with spring washers for enhanced performance.
